1 Peter 3:3-4
Let’s think on these three sentences:
1. There are many activities we engage in daily but not all of the activities we engage in actually counts or matters. In other words, not everything in life counts.
2. Not everything you do in the name of God counts. An example is recorded in Matt. 5:23-24.
If you’re upset with someone or someone is upset with you, and you give an offering, God won’t accept the offering until you settle your differences. So you might engage in the activity of giving which in itself is very good but before God, that particular offering doesn’t count.
3. We do a lot of things for God, but not everything we do for God has equal worth or value before God. 1st Peter 3:3-4 says, a meek and quiet spirit is of high value before God. Which suggests that some things have low value and some things have absolutely no value or worth before God.
A wise man will spend his time finding out the things that God regards highly or things that God places a very high premium on so he can spend his life pursuing them.
Of all the things you are pursuing vigorously in life, how many of them are the things God places a high value on?
We know from studying the scripture that God does not assess a man or quantify a man based on his material possession. Which means the amount of money you have doesn’t increase your worth before God (See luke 12:15).
One of the key indices that is of high value and worth before God is being involved in reaching other people and telling them about Jesus with the intent of discipling them so that they become addicted followers of Jesus.
Note in these scriptures, 1st Tim. 5:17-18, Phil. 2: 29, 1st Cor. 16: 18, God said regard men who are involved in winning souls/preaching the gospel very highly, the Bible instructs to honour such people. God will not advise you to honour and place a high value or high worth on someone he doesn’t have the same regard for.
Do you know the difference between a dead man and a living man? When the dead man was still alive, he had the same dreams, goals and aspirations that the living man has. But the moment he died, two things were withdrawn from him denying him the opportunity to realise those dreams. The two things withdrawn at the point of death that differentiates the dead from the living, are breath and opportunity.
The dead man has lost the opportunity to touch a life and make a difference; he has lost the opportunity of winning souls.
If you’re reading this, it means you still have two things, breath and opportunity. You still have an opportunity to make your life count, you still have an opportunity to touch someone for Jesus, and you still have an opportunity to secure a rich destiny for yourself in eternity.
Make use of that opportunity while you still can because, one day your life will expire and opportunity will be withdrawn.
Jesus said work now that is day for the night cometh when no man can work again. (John 9:4-5).
He who has an ear let him hear what the spirit of the Lord is saying today because the time keeper is already counting down.
