“In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith (by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises.” (Heb. 6:12 AMP)
Many people are not aware of this, but faith wasn't born alone. Faith has a twin brother and its name is patience. Faith is not faith until patience is added to it. You can't trust
God without being patient because Faith does not and will not work alone. When you have placed a demand on heaven concerning your needs in the name of Jesus, you need to apply the second force called patience, which is what actually crystallizes your faith.
If there is a delay in getting the answer to your prayers, it is patience that ensures that faith is still alive inspite of everything. Even our Christian life is to be run with patience (Heb. 12:1).
The Bible says the men who obtained promises from God mixed their faith with patience and that’s how they inherited the promises of God (Heb. 6:12; Rom 15:4), it also encourages us to follow the example of those kinds of men.
So let’s look at the example of Abraham - our faith role model. The Bible says he patiently endured. Meaning that what got him his breakthrough wasn't faith alone. It was his faith that was mixed with patience that got the result (Heb. 6: 15).
Patience is a vital virtue that has been lost in the 21st century because we live in a fast paced world but without patience, you will never get anything from God (James 1: 4).
The big question is how do you develop the patience that can sustain your faith?
– Keep the word of God in your heart: Fill your heart and life with God’s word this will produce patience – Luke 8:15.
– Tribulations and pain: When you go through tough times in life, it produces patience. Stop seeing tough times as times of neglect by God see them as times when your patience is being built – Rom. 5:3, James 1: 2 – 3.
