CULTIVATING SPIRITUAL INFLUENCE

We understand that the physical realm is controlled and influenced by the spiritual realm. Before any meaningful change takes place on earth, it must first occur in the spirit. That means that ultimate influence is spiritual influence. Hence, if a man understands how to navigate the spiritual world, it means he will ultimately have influence over what happens in the physical world.

There are men who have cultivated that kind of influence. Elijah the prophet sent a message to the King Ahab and said. “It won’t rain except at my word”. Talk about spiritual
influence! Notice he didn’t say at God’s word it won’t rain. He said, “at my word” (1 kings 17: 1 – 2). What gave Elijah the confidence to make such a decree? What did he do to activate that kind of spiritual influence over the weather conditions which ultimately affected the economy?

Remember Israel is an agrarian society. That means if it doesn’t rain, the cattle will die for lack of water and the crops won’t grow. When the economy collapses, every other thing aspect of society also breaks down. In other words, one man had enough influence, to bring an entire nation to a total stand still yet the man was not a king, he didn’t have any physical weapon, he wasn’t from an influential home but he had one thing – Power with God – forhe had cultivated spiritual influence.

Please note that he didn’t have spiritual influence because he was a supersonic man of God, no! The Bible says he was a man as normal as we all are yet he prayed and shut up the heavens (James 5:17).

How do you cultivate spiritual influence?

(1) Be born again and live like a child of God: At creation, we were given the dominion mandate. We were mandated to have dominion over God’s creation – Gen 1:26… but when man sinned and fell, he lost the mandate.
Salvation (being born again) is what begins the restoration journey .

(2) Serve God with all your heart: 1 Kings 17:1; 2 Kings 20 : 1 – 2.
King Hezekiah was able to get heaven to change the death verdict over his life because he served God with all his heart. He reminded God of his service.
Elijah introduced himself as a man that serves God hence I can make a decree that can cripple Israel 1 king 17:1

(3) Be a man of prayer: James 5:17.
Prayer is an ancient yet modern key that activates the ultimate influence.

(4) Giving: Acts 10:4
Your giving unlocks heaven to move in your direction.

(5) Be a man who wants to please God and Obey Him – In other words become a kingdom addict: Acts 13:22.

When God sees that you are pro-heaven, He allows you to wield influence because He knows you will always defend the kingdoms position at all times.

(6) Become a productive soul winner: John 15:16. Men who engage in the number one assignment of heaven, will wield influence in heaven that influences the earth. The Bible says in our text in John that they will have all their desires met.

(7) The name of Jesus: Philippians 2:9 – 11.
Jesus’ name has influence in heaven, earth and under the earth. When you use the name, these 3 worlds responds not to you but to that name. That name has been given to you so use it.
  Matthew28 :18 – 20.
