THE BOUQUET

Have you ever been in a situation where you know the right thing to do but you lack the power and will to do it? If your answer is yes then you are not different from the disciples. They knew the right thing to do but they couldn’t do it. Less than 12 hours after the disciples said they’ll not deny Jesus, they still did, even though they knew they should stand by Jesus. The reason is because human effort is unable and cannot give you the will power to withstand the pressure that comes from the flesh.

How then can we break away from the desires of the flesh? Let’s look at Hosea 10:12, “Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you”.

The bible makes it clear that you’ve not been able to do the right things because you’ve depended on your own will power. You have to understand that without the ability of the Holy Spirit, you will not be able to live a victorious Christian life.

Do you know that when the Holy Spirit came down on the day of Pentecost, He came like a “bouquet”? A bouquet is a lot of flowers arranged in a bunch. The Holy Spirit is like that; He didn’t just come with tongues like most people think, He came with a lot of other things. One of which is “the spirit of purity/holiness”.

You need to cry to God till it comes on you; like the scripture above says, until He comes; it didn’t say until you’re tired; you have to pray till the spirit of holiness takes hold of your spirit. The bible tells us how it will come in Isaiah 4:4, “When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning…”; the fire here is the spirit of righteousness; once it comes on you, it destroys and burns off the appetite of sin or the flesh and give you an ability to live a victorious Christian life. Realize that if this is not broken over your life, you will run this race and end up in hell. You cannot depend on your human ability which of course will fail you; you have to cry out to God until it is broken. Once it is, you will know because all those appetite will die.

We also have something called “The spirit of prayer”. In Zechariah 12:10, it is called “The spirit of grace and supplication”. You might have been saying “I” will wake up and pray, “I” will do this or that; that “I” there represents the flesh and the bible made it clear that the arm of the flesh will fail us.

Ask the Lord for this spirit; prayer is not just a word, there is a spirit responsible for it; just like the bible mentioned another spirit called “The spirit of faith”; there is also a spirit of wisdom. Whenever you need anyone, cry out for it till it takes hold of your soul.

Periodically, there will be depletion, just like when the fuel in a car starts depreciating, you need to refill it. So, if you find out that it’s going down again, ask the Lord to fill you again. You must also remember to set boundaries too to balance it.

Remember, Peter loved the Lord and even left his business and family to follow Jesus yet, he denied him. So, no matter how hard you try to do it on your own, you can’t; you might really love the Lord but still be struggling with sin; the bible made it clear that the arm of flesh will fail you. That is why the Holy Spirit came to help us.

So, beyond tongues, there are other things the Holy Spirit came with; just like a bouquet. Fall on your knees and cry out till they take hold of you according to your area of need.
